It is the business of man to become acquainted with the material universe in all of its manifestations, so far as may be possible, in order to provide a foundation of knowledge on which the reasoning mind of man may increasingly build.

About This Quote

Teachers, scientists, and philosophers have long had the goal of helping humans understand more about the world around them. The human experience is that of living in a world that is ever-changing and unknowable. By studying the world around humans, scientists hope to find something that will allow us to predict what will happen in the future. They hope to be able to predict when an earthquake will hit, when a hurricane will hit, when a stock market crash will happen, etc.

However, no one can predict these events exactly. What’s more, no matter how much knowledge scientists gather about the material universe in all its manifestations, no one can predict everything that will happen in this world.
